A Note to Parents and Guardians:
Many of the summer homework assignments allow students to choose their own book from a suggested reading list. If that is the case, your student may choose to read, or not to read, any book on the list. If your student starts a book and finds the content objectionable, they are not obligated to finish that book. Instead, refer your student back to the list to choose another book instead.
Just as the Children's Literature Association of Utah does not necessarily recommend that all children read all books, we suggest that parents consult reviews of books for mature themes, offensive language, etc. These books offer a variety of subject matter and interest for students. We encourage parents to read and discuss books and choices with their children.
